Different Avenues is pleased to host the weekly creative writing coures for the FIRE program of the Justice for DC Youth Coalition. FIRE stands for "Freedom Involves a Revolutionary Education," which is a six-week political education & leadership development program for DC young people ages 13-21, who have been affected by the juvenile justice system and/or are interested in organizing for youth justice. Part of the program are classes in hip-hop/rap, digital media, creative writing, and visual arts. Participants receive a $100 stipend at the completion of FIRE and would be eligible for an after-school job as a juvenile justice organizer.
