| Different Avenues Internet Outreach Project has won runner-up in Npower's Technology Innovation Awards! To learn more about the award, and Npower, click here. To read an opinion column from last year on the awards from the Washington Business Journal, click here. The same author has written another piece that mentions Differen Avenues, as a preview for this years awards. The Internet Outreach Project initiated by Different Avenues, with the Support of the DC Concerned Providers Coalition, is an innovative project. By using the internet to reach youth of color who are transgender women or men who have sex with men, we hope to make resources and information more accesible to these communities. The project is one of only a few around the country. Our evaluation tools are also exceptional - only a couple other groups are doing similar evaluation of their online services. One person online who viewed our profile on the website blackplanet.com had this to say about our work: "I just wanted to drop a note letting you know I think it's wonderful seeing more African Americans concerned and ready to help others about safer sex. Keep up the wonderful work." Started in August of 2005, our outreach team each week answers numerous questions about STDs, HIV, where to get tested, relationship issues, and more. We have a presence on multiple websites, chatrooms, bulletin boards and elsewhere. If you have questions for our team, send us an email at michael@differentavenues.org - @ - yahoo.com |
