Group members welcome Dajah Robinson. Mom Renee Robinson participated in the skill development group. Dajah also attended graduation in August 2003. Group members often become friends and help one another long after graduation. Some members come back to facilitate new groups

How the group works Group members learn three communication skillls: Feedback, confrontation and disclosure. They learn that they can discuss any topic and use these skills to guide conversation in different ways. Group members also learn how to assess their own abilities and learn moments at which they can make different decisions that can protect their health and safety.

How do we know it works? Everybody loves being in the group and says so. We also evaluate. Group members evaluate their own progress as individuals by writing in a skills building diary each week. We test pre and post participation skills levels [see picture on their right]. We also carry out confidential evaluation interviews with participants. Two thirds of group members know more about HIV/AIDS after being in the group.
